Matheson is the teacher of vampires, his book I Am Legend spawned so many copy cats there isn't a definitive number. Will Smith really brought it out in this movie, while some liberties were taken with the movie and how things happen, overall it was a great movie.
Anyone who likes the good survivialist movie will truly enjoy this one.

I'd suggest reading the book if you haven't already done so. It's long been one of my favorite reads, and one that I 'push' onto most of my friends who like to read.
When you consider how old the original book is, it's an astounding piece of literature. I also much prefer the ending in the book to that of the film.
That said, the film is definately worth a watch, although in my opinion it goes downhill once the 'zombies' enter the story.
